“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”
―Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
A dream can take time to achieve, and persistence is often vital in bringing it to fruition. When we moved from western Washington six years ago, it was to pursue a career change to the wine industry. It's important to remember that achieving a dream is often a long-term process that involves setting goals, making plans, and taking consistent action over time. I am now a viticulture student in the WSU certificate course and am learning what I need to plan and take action to have a vineyard someday where we can wake up each day.
Persistence in the face of a setback (a pandemic) and obstacles (a full-time healthcare job and other life events) were also critical. It helped me to stay motivated by visiting area wineries and volunteering to help during bottling and events. During this year's WineVit conference, I recommitted to my dream. Meeting wine growers and makers inspired me to enroll.
Ultimately, a dream can become a reality with patience, hard work, and persistence. So join me on the journey. I look forward to sharing what I am learning, what vineyards I visit, the wines I sip, and the progress toward my dream.
Could this be the vineyard view someday?
